Overview

REAXIS® C616 (Zinc Neodecanoate) is a commonly used zinc catalyst used in polyurethane applications. REAXIS® C616 utilizes neodecanoic acid as the ligand source and enhances compatibility with a wide range of polyurethane formulations. Related catalysts include REAXIS® C620, a zinc carboxylate based on an octanoic acid derived ligand. REAXIS® C616 and its components are present on a wide range of international regulatory lists, including US TSCA, EU REACH and Canadian DSL, making it a great choice for multinational formula development. We also offer this product blended with bismuth as REAXIS® C708.

Applications

REAXIS® C616 is primarily used in polyurethane elastomer and rigid foam applications.  REAXIS® C616 can also be used in polyurethane coating and adhesive applications. REAXIS® C616 is used in applications where toxicity concerns need to be mitigated, as it is a safer choice compared to organotins.

Reactivity

Zinc carboxylates such as REAXIS® C616, will preferentially catalyze the common polyurethane crosslinking reactions forming biurets and allophanates. Zinc carboxylates are typically not very effective at catalyzing the polyol-isocyanate reaction and thus urethane formation is poor. Thus, zinc carboxylates are typically used in combination with an efficient urethane catalyst such as a bismuth carboxylate. Additionally, these zinc specific crosslinking reactions usually require additional heat to be effective. Thus a mixed metal catalyst such as REAXIS® C708 is typically recommended, as the addition of a bismuth component enhances the overall reactivity.

Package & Storage

  • 44 lb (20 kg) pails
  • 485 lb (220 kg) drums

REAXIS® C616 should be stored in the original packaging at moderate temperatures and kept from freezing. The container should be closed tightly after each use to maximize shelf life.
