Reaxis® C417 - Dioctyltin Oxide/Silane Complex
Request A Sample Download The Technical Data SheetOverview
REAXIS® C417(Dioctyltin Oxide + Silane), also known as DOTO + Silane or dioctyl tin oxide + silane is a liquid version of dioctyltin oxide (DOTO) containing tetrapropyl ortho silane (TPOS) and is commonly used as a catalyst for silicone chemistries. As an octyltin-based catalyst, REAXIS® C417 is a moderately active catalyst and is ideal for use in adhesive and sealant formulations utilizing TPOS as an additive for increasing hydrolytic stability. Other silane grades include REAXIS® C248T (DBTO+ tetraethylortho silane/TEOS) and REAXIS® C417VM/V (DOTO + VTMO). Other liquid grades of Dioctyltin Oxide are available upon request. REAXIS® C417 is present on a wide range of international inventory lists, making it an ideal choice for international formula development.

Applications
REAXIS® C417 and its alternatives can be used as a homogeneous tin catalyst in a wide spectrum of silicone applications including adhesives, sealants, coatings and elastomers. Silicone-based applications include: acetoxy-, ethoxy- and oxime-based Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) adhesives and sealants, polyethylene crosslinked silanes (PEX), and select silane-modified polymers (SMPs) such as those based MS Polymer™ and SPUR+™ polymer platforms. REAXIS® C417 is ideal for use in adhesive and sealant formulations utilizing TPOS as an additive for increasing hydrolytic stability.
Reactivity
Given its high tin content, liquid form, and good compatibility with a wide range of raw materials, REAXIS® C417 tends to be a moderately reactive catalyst across a broad range of silicone formulations. In regard to silicone reactions, REAXIS® C417 like all tin-based catalysts, will catalyze the silanol/silane condensation reaction thus acting as both a polymerization and crosslinking catalyst. REAXIS® C417 is hydrolytically stable within typical formulation moisture levels, but this stability tends to break down with increasing moisture content. This characteristic hydrolytic stability is enhanced given REAXIS® C417’s octyl nature and is typically an improvement compared to the use of similar butyl- and methyl-based organotin catalysts including REAXIS® C248T and REAXIS® C248VM.
Package & Storage
- 44 lb (20 kg) plastic pail
REAXIS® C417 should be stored in the original packaging at moderate temperatures. The container should be closed tightly after each use to maximize shelf life. Given the presence of a silane, hydrolytic instability could occur resulting in reduced catalytic performance.
