Reaxis®  E155

REAXIS® E155 (Stannous Sulfate), also known as SnSO4, stannous sulphate, tin sulphate, or Tin (II) Sulfate, is a versatile high metal content stannous inorganic tin that is used in several applications, including surface finishing, water treatment, oil & gas, and the creation of other catalysts. REAXIS® E155 is commercially available in its hydrated form as SnSO4-2H2O.  REAXIS® E155 is produced to the highest standards utilizing high-purity tin metal while minimizing stannic content and maximizing active stannous content. REAXIS® E155 is a white crystalline solid; solution grades can be provided upon request. Similar products include REAXIS® C154 (Stannous Chloride Dihydrate) and REAXIS® C162 (Stannous Chloride Anhydrous). REAXIS® E155 is present on a wide range of international regulatory inventories, making it a great choice for international product and formula development.

Applications

Common end-use applications for REAXIS® E155 include tin plating applications for surface finishing, corrosion inhibition in water treatment, synthesis of other tin chemicals, and as a reducing agent in multiple areas.  As a reducing agent, REAXIS® E155, can be used in a wide spectrum of applications where reduction of other metals is required, for example, in reducing iron in Oil & Gas fracking, reducing silver in mirroring, and regenerating heterogeneous catalysts. In electroplating, REAXIS® E155 is used for tin plating, whereby tin ions in plating baths are deposited on a wide range of substrates enhancing corrosion resistance and imparting a protective coating.

Reactivity

Due to its high stannous tin concentration (44%), REAXIS® E155 is an efficient choice for attaining the desired functionality described in the applications above. REAXIS® E155 is a Tin (II) or stannous tin-based product thus making it an ideal reducing agent in a wide range of reactions. REAXIS® E155 is insoluble in aqueous solutions but solubility can be enhanced in an acidic environment. Like all inorganic stannous tin products, REAXIS® E155 is susceptible to air oxidation whereby stannous tin is converted to the stannic tin form. This oxidative instability can be improved in more acidic environments

Package & Storage

Packaging

  • 55 lb (25 kg) plastic pail

Storage

REAXIS® E155 should be stored in the original packaging.  The container should be closed tightly after each use to maximize shelf life. Characteristic of most inorganic stannous tins (Sn(II)), the primary cause of instability would be oxidation, where the signs of oxidation would be the yellowing of the white crystals.  Additionally, REAXIS® E155 is slightly hygroscopic.
