Zinc-Based Products

Reaxis supplies zinc carboxylates primarily for polyurethane catalysts and lubricant additive applications. As polyurethane catalysts, zinc carboxylates are ideal for their stability and selective catalysis of the various polyurethane crosslinking reactions such allophanates and biurets. As polyurethane catalysts, zincs are typically used with bismuth as this latter metal is more selective toward the urethane reaction. As lubricant additives, zinc carboxylates enhance lubricity, reduction of friction and wear and improving anti-corrosion properties.

Zinc Neodecanoate

REAXIS® C616 (Zinc Neodecanoate) is a versatile zinc carboxylate used in a wide range of applications.[1] As a catalyst, it promotes efficiency in chemical reactions, particularly in the manufacturing of polyurethanes where it facilitates crosslinking and curing processes. As polyurethane catalysts, zinc neodecanoate can be supplied as a blend with bismuth carboxylates or other diluents. Such blends offered by Reaxis include REAXIS® C708 and REAXIS® C3209.

In addition, zinc neodecanoate can be used to enhance performance of lubricants and greases, offering superior resistance to wear and tear, thus prolonging their service life.

In the PVC industry, Zinc Neodecanoate serves as an excellent stabilizer, enhancing the resistance of PVC products against thermal degradation and weathering.[2] Furthermore, in paint and coating applications, zinc neodecanoate acts as a oxidative drier that promotes faster curing times and results in an improved finish quality characterized by enhanced hardness and gloss.

The robustness and multifunctionality of Zinc Neodecanoate make it a good choice for a variety of applications, from catalyzing chemical reactions to improving the quality and performance of end products.

Zinc Octoate

Like zinc neodecanoate, REAXIS® C620 (Zinc Octoate) is a commonly used carboxylate used in various applications. As a catalyst, it promotes efficiency in chemical reactions, particularly in the manufacturing of polyurethanes where it facilitates crosslinking and curing processes. As polyurethane catalysts, zinc neodecanaote can be supplied as a blend with a bismuth carboxylate or other diluents. Such blends offered by Reaxis include REAXIS® C717, which is a blend of both zinc and bismuth octoate.

In coatings and paints, Zinc Octoate functions as a drier, facilitating the quick drying of paint films. This leads to an improved production rate and contributes to a high-quality finish characterized by enhanced durability and aesthetic appeal.

In addition, zinc octoate can be used as a metal-based lubricant additive to enhance performance of lubricants and greases, offering superior resistance to wear and tear, thus prolonging their service life. Here, the Reaxis product of choice, REAXIS® C3210, is the version where most of the free octanoic acid has been replaced with mineral oil.

When used as a stabilizer in rubber and PVC manufacturing, Zinc Octoate contributes to the products’ longevity by preventing degradation due to exposure to heat and ultraviolet radiation.[3]

Lastly, zinc octoate can be used in petrochemical applications as a desulfuring additive whereby sulfur is converted to less harmful substituents.

With its multifunctional properties and wide-ranging applications, Zinc Octoate is a versatile additive that imparts property enhancement in a wide range of end-use products.
