Reaxis®  C620

REAXIS® C620 (Zinc Octoate), also commonly referred to as Zinc Ethylhexanoic Acid, is a commonly used zinc catalyst used in polyurethane applications. REAXIS® C620 utilizes octanoic acid as the ligand source and, like a neodecanoic- based ligand, enhances the compatibility with a wide range of polyurethane formulations.  Related catalysts would include REAXIS® C616, a zinc carboxylate based on an neodecanoic acid-derived ligand. REAXIS® C620 is provided as a co-catalyst with bismuth octoate as REAXIS® C717. REAXIS® C620 and its components are present on a wide range of international regulatory lists, including US TSCA and Canadian DSL.

Applications

REAXIS® C620 is primarily used as a catalyst in polyurethane elastomer and rigid foam applications as well as a lubricant additive.  REAXIS® C620 can also be used as a catalyst in polyurethane coating and adhesive applications. REAXIS® C620 can also be used in petrochemical and oil & gas applications to sequester hydrogen sulfide.

Reactivity

Zinc carboxylates such as REAXIS® C620 will preferentially catalyze the common polyurethane crosslinking reactions forming biurets and allophanates. Zinc carboxylates are typically not very effective at catalyzing the polyol-isocyanate reaction, resulting in poor urethane formation. This is why zinc carboxylates are typically used in combination with an efficient urethane catalyst such as a bismuth carboxylate. Additionally, these zinc-specific crosslinking reactions usually require additional heat to be effective. Zinc/bismuth co-catalyst products include REAXIS® C708 and REAXIS® C717

Package & Storage

Packaging

  • 440 lb (200 kg) drum

Storage

REAXIS® C620 should be stored in the original packaging at moderate temperatures and kept from freezing. The container should be closed tightly after each use to maximize shelf life.
