Reaxis®  C154S + - Stannous Chloride, Dihydrate

REAXIS® C154S+ (Stannous Chloride Dihydrate), is a versatile high metal content stannous inorganic tin used in applications where a free-flowing solid is required. REAXIS® C154S+ consists of stannous chloride dihydrate (REAXIS® C154) and silica and is processed to ensure a free-flowing solid that acts to minimize the negative effects of temperature and hygroscopicity. This variant of stannous chloride dihydrate, REAXIS® C154S+, has an improved stability versus REAXIS® C154S. REAXIS® C154S+ is produced to the highest quality standards, meeting A.C.S. specifications. Stability/free-flowability can be enhanced via blends with various products including silica, talc, and numerous solid resins. Similar products include REAXIS® C154T, which is the variant with talc,  REAXIS® C154P which includes polypropylene and REAXIS® C154S which is another version of the product blended with silica. Specialty blends and related products with tailored particle sizes can be offered upon request. REAXIS® C154S+ is present on a wide range of international regulatory inventories and can be used in formulations requiring USFDA compliance.

Common end-use chemistries and applications for the standard grade of stannous chloride dihydrate, REAXIS® C154, include: esterifications, thermoplastic elastomers, personal care, surface finishing, oil well simulation (acidizing additive), corrosion inhibition, and glass (silver mirroring and color modifier), as well as use as a reducing agent. REAXIS® C154S+ is primarily used in hybrid thermoplastic elastomers formulations, specifically in the production of EPDM and polyethylene-based thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs). REAXIS® C154S+ is of the inorganic tin family of tin chemicals and is an ideal candidate, in select chemistries and formulations, as an alternative to more regulatory controlled organotins.

Due to its high tin concentration, small ligand, and inorganic Sn (II) nature, REAXIS® C154S+ is a very active catalyst and reducing agent.  Given its inorganic tin nature, REAXIS® C154S+ is stable at high reaction temperatures typical of many reactions. In addition, REAXIS® C154S+ is characterized by a narrow particle size distribution resulting in ideal blending with other solid raw materials.

Package & Storage

  • 44 lb (20 kg) plastic pails

REAXIS® C154S+ should be stored in the original packaging.  The container should be closed tightly after each use to maximize shelf life. Characteristic of most inorganic tins (Sn(II)), the primary cause of instability would be oxidation. Minimize exposure to temperatures > 45°C.
